Operate slip casting equipment

Assessment tool

Version 1.0
Issue Date: May 2024

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate slip casting equipment typically used to produce clay and ceramic products. It applies to both large production and smaller craft contexts.

This unit applies to operators who are required to take responsibility for own outputs and follow established procedures to prepare moulds and equipment, operate the forming equipment and remove product from mould. Operators are also required to work autonomously and apply their own judgement to interpret information; monitor processes; identify and address routine and non-routine problems and control hazards.

This unit does not apply to drying, firing or finishing operations and does not require the operation of a central control panel.

This unit applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team or group and in liaison with other shift team members, team leader and supervisor.

No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

You may want to include more information here about the target group and the purpose of the assessments (eg formative, summative, recognition)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
